TRAGEDY In Ogun As Man STABS Best Friend To Death Days After Leaving Prison

Tragedy has struck Akute in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State after a man allegedly stabbed his best friend, identified simply as Dada, to death following a heated argument.
The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026, around an area beneath the Akute bridge. The incident caused panic in the community, with some shop owners said to have hurriedly closed their businesses and fled the area.
The suspect, whose identity was not immediately known, was described by residents as a notorious figure who had recently returned from prison.
Although the exact cause of the argument remained unclear, eyewitnesses said the disagreement between the two men quickly became violent.
An eyewitness identified as Gabriel said Dada allegedly attacked the suspect first, stabbing him in the hand during the argument.
“They were arguing with each other. Dada was the first person to stab the suspect in the hand. Everyone here knows the suspect as very notorious. He just returned from prison.
“People who witnessed what happened immediately advised Dada to leave the area. But he didn’t listen. This time, the suspect had left the area after that cut. A few minutes later, he just returned with a weapon.
“He stabbed Dada in the neck. Bystanders applied pressure to the wounds, but he died en route to the hospital.”
Another eyewitness, identified as Samuel, said people rushed the victim towards a hospital after he sustained the injury, but he died before receiving treatment.
“Some people rushed him to the hospital. But when they discovered he had died, they left the corpse on the road before calling the police to inform them about what had happened,” Samuel said.
He added that police officers later arrived at the area and began searching the surroundings.
“Some officers immediately arrived at the area and started raiding anyone found loitering around the bus stop,” he said.
A police source familiar with the area described the location beneath the Akute bridge as a hideout allegedly used by suspected criminals.
“There is a place under the Akute bridge. These hoodlums usually use the place as a hideout. The hideout is where the incident occurred. The man who was killed was popularly known as Dada. I am not sure about the name of the suspect.
“If you check under the bridge, the chairman has begun to fence it so that these hoodlums would not use it for shelter.
“There are reports of phone theft and all manner of crimes in the area. If you pass that place at night, it is a problem. That is why our men are usually stationed there at night. We are still looking for the suspect.”
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the fatal stabbing and said security operatives had intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security around Akute, particularly in areas reportedly used as hideouts by suspected criminals.
It is also not the first fatal stabbing reported in the wider area. In February 2026, a commercial motorcyclist was reportedly stabbed to death following an argument over a N100 ticket involving members of a transport union tax collection group popularly known as agberos.
That earlier incident triggered protests by commercial motorcyclists in Lambe, Agbado and Akute communities.
Meanwhile, the suspect in the latest stabbing remains at large as police continue efforts to track him down and bring him before the law.
