 A 37-year-old security guard has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Calabar. The suspect, identified as Ndifreke Godwin, was arrested after the disturbing incident was reported by the child’s mother. The alleged assault reportedly occurred along Tinapa Road in Calabar, Cross River State. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the girl to his residence with a promise to give her money. The police alleged that after the child went with him, Godwin sexually assaulted her. The incident was reported to the police on August 29, 2026, following which officers moved swiftly to arrest the suspect. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for what the police described as a discreet and comprehensive investigation. Authorities have also taken steps to ensure that the young victim receives appropriate medical attention. The police said a medical form was issued to facilitate the necessary examination and treatment. The command said it would follow due process throughout the investigation and take appropriate legal action based on the findings. The incident has also renewed calls for parents and guardians to remain particularly watchful over children and to take reports of suspicious behaviour seriously.
