Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the expansion and upgrade of an electricity substation in Kankia Local Government Area, describing the project as an important investment in the state’s power infrastructure. Radda gave the commendation on Friday, October 23, 2026, during the commissioning of the upgraded facility. He said the project was expected to strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve power supply to residents. Speaking at the event, the governor expressed appreciation to the President on behalf of the state government and its people for approving the expansion. “The project has been completed, and we are here today to formally commission it,” Radda said, urging the Minister of Power to convey the state’s gratitude to Tinubu. He described Kankia as a proud host community for the electricity facility and appealed to residents to protect the infrastructure to ensure its continued operation. The governor explained that the commissioning formed part of a series of development activities in the state. Before the ceremony, the state had held a groundbreaking event for another power project in Mashi Local Government Area. The two developments are part of broader efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure across Katsina State. The Transmission Company of Nigeria has also been advancing transmission projects intended to improve the movement of bulk electricity to communities across the state and the wider North-West region. Radda further disclosed that the railway project linking Kano, Daura, Katsina and Maradi in Niger Republic was nearing completion. He described the project as one of the major infrastructure investments expected to benefit the state. On water supply, the governor announced plans to extend piped water from Zobe Dam to Kankia and about eight other local government areas. According to him, the water project had been anticipated for more than 40 years and would involve a pipeline stretching approximately 100 kilometres. Radda expressed hope that residents of the benefiting communities would begin receiving piped water by early 2027. He attributed the state’s infrastructure developments partly to reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the changes had helped the government pursue projects aimed at improving residents’ welfare. The governor also reaffirmed Katsina State’s support for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, describing Kankia as a stronghold of the party. He urged residents to safeguard the newly commissioned substation so that it could continue serving the community and future generations. Although the upgraded facility is expected to strengthen electricity transmission infrastructure, its impact on household supply will depend on the availability of electricity and the capacity of the wider transmission and distribution networks.
