Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, promising to mobilise the people of the state to support the President. Adeleke made the declaration on Sunday when he received the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, and other prominent members of the party at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo. The governor, who described Tinubu as his “dear father,” said his commitment to supporting the President was genuine and that he would fulfil his promise to deliver Osun votes to Tinubu in the 2027 election. Adeleke stressed that his political commitments were guided by integrity and values he learnt from his late father, a diplomat and labour union politician. “I don’t make empty promises. When I said we will deliver Osun State votes to our dear father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I mean it 100 per cent,” the governor said. He urged politicians and other stakeholders in Osun to put their differences aside and work together in the interest of the state and the President. “Politics must be with integrity. We are all from Osun State. Let’s forget our differences and work for the President,” he added. Adeleke also recalled his role in helping to secure support for Tinubu’s preferred candidates during the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives. According to him, although some lawmakers from Osun were initially inclined to support Senator Abdulaziz Yari for Senate President, he personally intervened and persuaded them to back Tinubu’s preferred candidates. He said the experience demonstrated his commitment to keeping political promises once made. Basiru, who also leads the APC in Osun, said the visit was partly to appreciate Adeleke for his support and to congratulate him on his recent victory in the state governorship election. The APC national secretary expressed optimism that the collaboration between the APC and the Accord Party, which backed Adeleke in the governorship election, could translate into significant electoral gains for Tinubu in 2027. Basiru projected that Tinubu could secure as many as 1.5 million votes in Osun if the political alliance is sustained. He said the APC performed strongly in the recent governorship election and argued that combining the voting strength of the two political camps could give Tinubu a substantial advantage in the presidential election. Adeleke’s declaration comes despite his membership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and marks a significant political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential contest. The governor had earlier reaffirmed that his endorsement of Tinubu remained intact, saying he would not backtrack on the commitment. With the 2027 election drawing closer, Adeleke’s pledge is expected to generate further political discussion in Osun and across the country.
