Greece Shock Klopp’s Germany as Portugal Hold Off Haaland and Norway

Greece recorded a historic 1–0 victory over Germany while Portugal maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League with a 2–1 win against Norway in Oslo. Greece produced the biggest result of the latest UEFA Nations League round on Sunday, defeating Germany 1–0 in Augsburg to leave Jürgen Klopp still searching for his first victory as Germany head coach. Kourbelis gives Greece historic win

Germany controlled significant portions of the match but were unable to turn their possession and attacking opportunities into a goal. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Kourbelis struck for Greece. UEFA described the goal as a deflected effort, and Germany could not find an equaliser during the remaining minutes. The victory was particularly significant for Greece because it ended a long wait for a first win against Germany. UEFA's match centre recorded Germany's previous head-to-head advantage at seven victories to Greece's one, with three previous meetings ending in draws. The latest result therefore represented a landmark moment for Greece in the fixture. Klopp, speaking to UEFA after the match, said the defeat was harsh and acknowledged that Greece had a clear plan. He added that Germany needed greater conviction in what they were doing. Greece now lead League A Group 2 with six points from two matches. The Netherlands have four points, Germany one and Serbia none.

Portugal survive Norway test

Portugal also maintained their winning start, defeating Norway 2–1 in Oslo. João Félix put Portugal ahead in the 17th minute, continuing his scoring start to the competition. Norway responded after the interval when Erling Haaland levelled in the 51st minute. Portugal restored their advantage three minutes later. Gonçalo Ramos took advantage of a misplaced pass from Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland and finished to make it 2–1. The home side had opportunities to alter the outcome. Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa denied Haaland twice before the break, while Rafael Leão hit the crossbar later in the contest, according to the PUNCH account and UEFA's match reporting. Haaland's goal nevertheless added another milestone to his Nations League record. Independent match reporting put his international tally at 65 goals for Norway and his Nations League total at 22, reinforcing his status as the competition's leading scorer. But his contribution was not enough to prevent Norway from suffering their first defeat of this Nations League campaign. Netherlands beat Serbia

The Netherlands also collected three points in Belgrade after defeating Serbia 2–1. Mexx Meerdink scored twice for the visitors. His first came from the penalty spot before Serbia substitute Luka Jović brought the hosts level shortly after half-time. Meerdink then completed his brace with a low finish to secure the Netherlands' victory. UEFA said the result left the Dutch on four points after two matches in Group A2. The result also strengthened the Netherlands' position behind Greece in the group, while Serbia remain without a point after two defeats.

Denmark claim first points

Denmark recovered from their opening defeat by beating Wales 2–0 at Parken. An own goal from Wales defender Ben Davies shortly after half-time gave Denmark the lead. Gustav Isaksen then doubled the advantage, with UEFA reporting that his effort went in via the crossbar. The victory gave Denmark their first points of the campaign, while Wales remained without a point after two matches.

Ireland bounce back

The Republic of Ireland also responded strongly to their opening defeat, beating Israel 3–0. Troy Parrott opened the scoring before Adam Idah added a second. Jack Moylan completed the first-half scoring to give Ireland a commanding advantage before the interval. Ireland had lost their opening match to Kosovo, making Sunday's result their first points of the campaign. Austria, meanwhile, maintained a perfect record in League B3 with a 3–1 victory over Kosovo. Carney Chukwuemeka came off the bench to complete Austria's scoring. In League D, Gibraltar drew 0–0 with Andorra, while Lithuania and Azerbaijan finished 1–1. Armandas Kucys gave Lithuania an early lead from the penalty spot before Mahir Emreli equalised five minutes later.

What comes next

The Nations League now moves into the remainder of Matchday 2, with several League A fixtures still to be played. Belgium face France and Türkiye meet Italy on Monday, while Czechia play England and Spain take on Croatia on Tuesday. For Germany, the immediate task is to recover from a difficult opening two matches. Klopp's side have produced a draw and a defeat and currently sit third in their group. Portugal, meanwhile, have made a perfect start and will take six points into their next fixture. Greece's victory gives them the early advantage in Group A2, but the competition remains at an early stage, with four matches still to play in the league phase. The latest round has already produced a significant result, however: Greece have beaten Germany for the first time, while Portugal have overcome Norway despite another goal from Haaland.
