Today -Brentford vs Chelsea: Blues Face Unbeaten Bees in Crucial West London Derby
Chelsea travel across west London on Friday night for a potentially difficult Premier League encounter against an unbeaten Brentford side at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Matchweek Five fixture is scheduled to kick off at 8pm BST, with both clubs looking to strengthen their early-season positions before the international break.
Brentford have made a resilient start to the 2026/27 campaign. Keith Andrews' side have collected six points from their opening four league matches, recording one victory and three draws. Their campaign began with an impressive 3-0 victory over Tottenham, while their latest league outing ended 2-2 against Bournemouth.
Chelsea arrive with greater pressure to rediscover winning form. Xabi Alonso's team have failed to win their previous two Premier League fixtures, following a defeat against Arsenal with a 2-2 home draw against newly promoted Hull City.
The visitors will also have to manage important absences. Joao Pedro and captain Reece James have both been left out of Chelsea's squad for the derby. Pedro had already withdrawn from Brazil's upcoming international squad because of injury concerns.
Brentford's Kevin Schade could be one player to watch after scoring three league goals during the club's unbeaten start. Chelsea have also shown considerable attacking threat this season but have struggled defensively, keeping only one clean sheet across their opening six matches in all competitions, according to the Evening Standard.
With Brentford protecting their unbeaten league record and Chelsea seeking to end a two-match winless run, the west London derby offers both teams an opportunity to enter the international break with momentum.
