The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Samuel Shekwolo, has sparked controversy after telling residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress to leave the council ahead of the 2027 elections. Shekwolo made the remark in a video shared on social media on Tuesday while addressing his supporters and constituents. The council chairman linked his position to the developmental projects being delivered in Kuje by the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. According to Shekwolo, residents benefiting from projects provided by the administration should not turn around to vote against the APC. “It’s either you are with us,” he said, while speaking about the political choices of residents ahead of the 2027 elections. Shekwolo also reportedly declared that residents who opposed the APC had no place in the council, a position that has attracted attention and raised questions about political tolerance and citizens’ freedom to support parties of their choice. The remarks come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians expected to step up efforts to mobilise supporters at the grassroots. While the chairman’s comments were made in the context of promoting support for the APC, the development has drawn attention to the growing political contest in the Federal Capital Territory and the increasingly vocal demands for political loyalty from supporters and residents. The statement is likely to generate further reactions as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections.
